Bullet Point Cressex News

Cressex link Road finally opens

After much anticipation, the Cressex link road has finally opened. You can now drive all the way along Corporation road, across the junction and down to a roundabout on the A4010 (just a little way along from the Holiday Inn). This route will be used by Park and Ride and is also useful for us Cressex workers wanting their McDonalds fix from ASDA ! Whether it improves or makes worse the traffic congestion we have been experiencing in recent weeks remains to be seen !

Cressex School gets a £20M makeover

An artists impression of the new Cressex school building
Cressex Community School in High Wycombe will be rebuilt in a £20 million project, Buckinghamshire County Council have announced, after securing funding from a national initiative. The news comes after the Council put up such a persuasive argument for the major investment needed in its schools that it secured funds via a special early round of funding from the national Building Schools for the Future programme, a 15-year programme to rebuild or refurbish all secondary schools. for our other priority school, Quarrendon Upper School, and I would hope to have some positive information within the next few months." Headteacher, Richard Marshall says " I am absolutely delighted this funding has been secured. My staff have worked tremendously hard to improve exam results this year. They, along with our pupils, really deserve this good news."

Cressex Hit by Major Easter BT problems

Over 3000 businesses were believed to have been affected by a major BT problem in the Cressex Business Park over the Easter Bank Holiday period, caused by vandals. Nine fibre optic cables and over 30 copper cables were cut through on Thursday night. It took BT until Easter Sunday to get everybody's telephone and data lines back up, despite having over 20 engineers working on the problem. BT believes that the vandalism wasn't caused by bored kids, but was well planned and carried-out by someone who knew what they were doing. One theory is that the lines may have been cut to allow thieves to plunder vulnerable companies over the long weekend whilst theit alarm lines were down (although the cutting of the lines resulted in many alarms going off, calling police to the scene straight away). Another theory is that the vandalism may have been a practice run for something we have yet to see. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen something suspicious. You can call High Wycombe Police station on 0845 505050 or crimestoppers (anonymously) on 0800 555111 if you saw anything.

How Cressex is affected by the High Wycombe redevelopment

The £500M investment being made into the redevelopment of the High Wycombe town centre is a boost for the local area in general, and the resulting new shops, cafe culture, sports and leisure facilities and new housing will all help to attract and keep potential staff in the area. There are elements of the redevelopment which directly affect the Cressex Business Park. In particular, a new Park and Ride service (to replace the current Cressexpress service) will start operating soon, and work is progressing well with the creation of a bus maintenance and ancillary operations depot prior to the demolition of the town centre site. The current sports centre on Cressex Island will be replaced with a new building offering a 50m swimming pool, gymnasium, and even rollerblading/skateboarding facilities for those of you who are still young at heart !
